In just one week, Apple TV+ will finally debut its live-action take on Foundation. Bringing Isaac Asimov’s pioneering sci-fi series to life obviously came with its own set of challenges. And in a new featurette, showrunner David S. Goyer and several of the series cast members detail their efforts to do right by the original novels. Check it out for yourself below.
Goyer, who initially developed the series with Josh Friedman, went so far as to call Foundation “the greatest science fiction work of all time,” influencing everything from Star Wars to Dune and beyond. He also noted that when it comes to presenting “bold ideas,” Asimov was always a cut above his contemporaries. So there was a lot of pressure when translating these themes to TV.
“The trick was figuring out how to take these weighty ideas that span a millennia and make them emotional,” explained Goyer.

Additionally, Goyer teased the conflict between the series’ two warring factions. There’s the Galactic Empire (no, not that one), led by Lee Pace’s Brother Day, and those who follow Jared Harris’ Hari Seldon in his “thousand-year chess game” to save the galaxy.
Harris was quick to point out how “epic” the series is, and it’s hard to disagree. The featurette continues to tease the show’s massive scale with plenty of glamor shots of its futuristic production design. According to Pace and co-stars Leah Harvey (Salvor) and Lou Llobell (Gaal), every single episode is bursting with excitement.
Foundation premieres on Apple TV+ next Friday, September 24.
