There’s a lot that can be said about Oscar Isaac’s performance as the titular supervillain in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016. For one thing, he lacked the towering frame of his comic book counterpart, and the character’s overall design drew comparisons to Ivan Ooze from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie.
Luckily, Isaac is getting another shot at joining the Marvel Universe as the star of Disney+’s upcoming Moon Knight series. And while speaking with Total Film (via GamesRadar), he discussed how the experiences have been different.
Isaac hasn’t shied away from expressing his frustrations with Apocalypse in the past. In a 2018 interview with GQ, he described the makeup process as “excruciating” and claimed that it kept him from interacting with his co-stars on set. Regardless, Isaac insists that his collaborators on Moon Knight are making his latest superhero endeavor a more positive one.
“It’s not so much about the genre of things,” said Isaac. “It’s the people. And is there room to do something interesting in it? Sometimes there is, and you think there will be. And sometimes it turns out there isn’t. So with this – I love the people involved. I thought there was an incredibly unusual story to tell within the world of, you know, the superhero language.”

“But we’re making something that’s quite different,” continued Isaac. “And that doesn’t follow the same… not necessarily even logic of what a lot of superhero films do. I think because of that, I just found an opportunity to do something that I’ve not done at all yet, and to have a lot of creative collaboration with the rest of the people making it.”
Moon Knight is currently filming in Budapest, and according to Isaac, the shoot has been “wonderful” so far.
“Every morning, the alarm goes off, and I can’t wait to get to work,” added Isaac. “We’re having such a great time on this thing.”
Marvel hasn’t announced a release date for Moon Knight.
