Nearly two years ago, HBO Max’s Dune spinoff series, Dune: The Sisterhood, hit a roadblock when showrunner Jon Spaihts left the project. Since then, there’s been a surprising lack of progress on the proposed spinoff. However, that period of inactivity is over.
Via Variety, Diane Ademu-John has signed on to be the new showrunner on The Sisterhood. She will also executive produce and write the series. Ademu-John’s genre experience includes stints on The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Medium, and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Additionally, she has written for Empire and Crossing Jordan.

The Sisterhood is set in the same universe as the new Dune feature film. It follows the Bene Gesserit, an enigmatic order comprised of women who mastered extraordinary abilities of the mind and body. Thanks to those powers, the Bene Gesserit rise to prominence in the Imperium while pursuing their own agenda. This series will also be a prequel to the movie as it explores how and why the Bene Gesserit came to the planet Arrakis.
Dune director Denis Villeneuve will helm the pilot episode of The Sisterhood. He will also executive produce the series alongside Spaihts, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.
