Warning: There are spoilers ahead for the Batwoman season 2 finale!
A few hours ago, Batwoman wrapped up its sophomore season. And the season 2 finale saw a couple of characters leaving the story, as there are no current plans for Dougray Scott’s Jacob Kane and Wallis Day’s Kate Kane to return in season 3. Scott portrayed Jacob Kane since season 1, but it appears that he opted to say goodbye to the character of the former head of Crows Security. He didn’t appear in yesterday’s episode.
“Having Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane on Batwoman was incredibly special for all of us,” said showrunner Caroline Dries in a statement. “An actor with his pedigree and reputation elevates any project, and he had great chemistry with his castmates. We loved telling Commander Kane’s story for the last two seasons, and we will always leave the door open to have him return. We wish him the very best!”

Day had a shorter journey on the show. The English actress took up the character of Kate Kane following Ruby Rose’s exit from the show in season 2. And while showrunner Dries leaves the door open for a hypothetical return, it’s a farewell to Kate for now.
“It’s our way of wrapping up her journey,” Dries said while talking with EW. “It’s ending how we met her, you know, in the absence of Bruce, and then bringing that full-circle and giving Kate a loving farewell between the Bat-team and Sophie”.
