Tom Welling Says He and Michael Rosenbaum Are Working on a Smallville Animated Series

Two years ago, Tom Welling briefly reprised his Smallville role as Clark Kent in Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, he may not be done with the Man of Steel. Via CBR, Welling recently told a fan on Cameo that he is developing a Smallville animated series with his former co-star, Michael Rosenbaum.

““Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible,” said Welling. “Don’t tell anybody, though. It’s a secret. We’re still working on it.”

Regardless, this is far from an official confirmation. For one thing, it’s unclear if Welling was being serious. However, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Erica Durance also reprised her role as Lois Lane for Crisis, although Rosenbaum declined to return as Lex Luthor. The rest of the cast members are also largely available, if they’re game for a Smallville comeback. After all, only one former Smallville star is currently facing a lengthy stint in prison.

If this show goes forward, CW Seed or HBO Max seem like the best potential homes for the project. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see if it happens.
