The Boys Casts Three New Superheroes For Season 3

Soldier Boy won’t be the only supe who’s aiming to give Billy Butcher and his crew a hard time on the next season of The Boys. According to Entertainment Weekly, he will be joined by at least three other “heroes” making their series debut. Sean Patrick Flanery, Nick Wechsler, and Miles Gaston Villanueva have joined the show’s cast as Gunpowder, Blue Hawk, and Supersonic.

Gunpowder (Flanery) actually has a counterpart in Garth Ennis’ and Darick Robertson’s original comic book series. He was introduced early on in the saga as a member of Teenage Kix, a team of young supes. But since Flanery is in his mid-50s, the show’s producers are probably making some changes to his character. Flanery is best known for starring opposite Norman Reedus in The Boondock Saints and its 2009 sequel. He’s also remembered for his role in 1995’s Powder.

Meanwhile, Blue Hawk and Supersonic appear to be brand new creations for the series. Rumor has it that Supersonic (Villanueva) might be an ex-boyfriend of Annie January/Starlight. However, this remains unconfirmed for now. Details about Wechsler’s Blue Hawk are equally slim. But judging by his name, it’s possible that he will parody bird-themed superheroes like Falcon and Hawkman.

Fans might recognize Villanueva from his appearances on The CW’s Nancy Drew as well as NBC’s The Resident. Wechsler played Kyle Valenti on the original Roswell series that debuted on The WB in 1999. More recently, he starred on all four seasons of ABC’s Revenge.

Amazon still hasn’t announced a premiere date for The Boys season 3.
