Jeb Stuart Will Write Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed TV Series

Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series finally has a writer. According to Variety, Jeb Stuart has been tasked with bringing Ubisoft’s hit video game series to the small screen.

Stuart is far from a stranger to big name action franchises. He co-wrote the original Die Hard movie in 1988. And throughout the next decade, he continued to make a name for himself by working on films like The Fugitive, Another 48 Hrs., and Just Cause. More recently, Stuart worked with Netflix on last year’s animated miniseries The Liberator. He also created Vikings: Valhalla for Netflix, but the show still hasn’t been given a premiere date.

Ever since the first installment bowed in 2007, the Assassin’s Creed series has whisked gamers away to a wide variety of different locales, from the Third Crusade to Ancient Greece and beyond. The games detail the centuries-old rivalry between the Assassins and the Templars. Although both orders seek to achieve world peace, they do so using wildly different methods. 20th Century Fox previously tried turning the franchise into a film in 2016. However, the finished product received overwhelmingly negative reviews and dashed any hopes for a sequel.

Originally announced last fall, the Assassin’s Creed series also has Ubisoft Film & Television’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik onboard as executive producers. Netflix is developing the series as part of a deal to bring several Ubisoft properties to TV. The streamer is also working with John Wick creator Derek Kolstad on an anime series based on Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell games. Fans got their first look at that show during Netflix’s Geeked Week festivities last Friday.

Netflix still hasn’t announced a release date for Assassin’s Creed.
