Over the last two years, a live-action TV show based on the Resident Evil games has slowly (but surely) been coming together at Netflix. And now, the series has finally assembled a diverse cast of performers. During the final day of Geeked Week, the streaming service announced that former Fringe star Lance Reddick is headlining the show as Albert Wesker, a character who should be familiar to longtime fans of the franchise. Reddick will lead a cast that also includes Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nuñez. You can check out photos of the full cast below.

Albert Wesker made his first appearance in the original Resident Evil game in 1996. And since then, he’s been one of the series’ primary antagonists. He was introduced as the captain of Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), the special forces division tasked with solving high-level crimes in Raccoon City. However, he was soon exposed as an agent for the Umbrella Corporation (though he ultimately betrayed them as well). Throughout subsequent games, Wesker dedicated himself to bringing about humanity’s extinction and triggering the next step in planetary evolution. The character has also appeared in Sony’s Resident Evil film series directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Both Jason O’Mara and Shawn Roberts played the role in different installments.

Former Supernatural writer Andrew Dabb is showrunning Resident Evil for Netflix. According to the official logline, the show centers on an outbreak that “reveals the Umbrella Corporation’s dark secrets” nearly 30 years after humans discovered the T-virus. The series’ first season will reportedly consist of eight hour-long episodes. Unfortunately, Netflix still hasn’t shared when we can expect them to hit the platform.
Dabb’s series isn’t the only Resident Evil project coming down the pike. A new CGI-animated series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, is set to premiere on Netflix in July. Sony is also rebooting the franchise on the big screen this fall with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. That film will notably feature The Umbrella Academy‘s Tom Hopper as its own version of Wesker. Meanwhile, Capcom released latest game in the series, Resident Evil Village, last month.
