Last month, Netflix’s Castlevania anime wrapped up its fourth and final season. However, the spinoff series is now officially going forward. During the final day of Geeked Week, Netflix announced that the Castlevania spinoff will jump ahead in time to the French Revolution. Additionally, Richter Belmont, the son of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, will be the new protagonist. Richter will also be joined by Maria Renard, one of his distant relatives.

Richter and Maria were both playable characters in the video game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Within that game, Richter’s lover, Annette, was kidnapped and taken to Dracula’s castle. However, that game’s storyline may not fit with the show’s previous depiction of events.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night also featured Richter and Maria in supporting roles, with Alucard in the leading role. But it’s unclear if the new series will adapt any aspects of that game.
