Y: The Last Man Gets a September Premiere Date on FX on Hulu

Yorick Brown and Ampersand are finally hitting the airwaves this fall. Following a tumultuous pre-production phase that’s been marked by one hurtle after another, FX on Hulu’s long-gestating adaptation of Y: The Last Man (via Collider) will premiere its first season on September 13.

FX secured the rights to the series in 2015. However, it wasn’t until last October that production finally got underway, with Ben Schnetzer starring as Yorick. Eliza Clark is acting as the series’ showrunner.

Writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra launched Y: The Last Man through Vertigo in 2002. And by the end of its 60-issue run, the series had cemented its place as one of the most celebrated non-superhero comics in recent memory. The story picks up after a mysterious plague wipes out every living mammal on Earth with a Y chromosome. Somehow, Yorick and his pet monkey, Ampersand, were spared. Yorick subsequently sets out on a journey across what’s left of the U.S. in order to discover the reason behind his survival. Along the way, he encounters misandrist cults, mad scientists, and other obstacles.

In addition to Schnetzer, the series also stars Ashley Romans as Agent 355, Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann, Olivia Thirlby as Yorick’s sister, Hero, and Diane Lane as Yorick’s mother, Congresswoman Jennifer Brown. FX on Hulu previously debuted early footage from the series in a teaser video released back in March.
