Helstrom Producer Will Write Game of Thrones Spinoff, 10,000 Ships

Back in March, word broke that HBO had put three additional Game of Thrones spinoffs into development. One of those shows, 10,000 Ships, now has a writer. Via Deadline, Amanda Segel has signed on write the pilot episode of 10,000 Ships. Segel was previously the co-executive producer of Helstrom and Person of Interest. She has also written episodes of The Good Wife and executive produced Spike TV’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist.

The series will follow Princess Nymeria, a legendary warrior in the mythos of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Within the show, Nymeria and her fellow Rhoynars have to regroup from their defeat in the Second Spice War and travel from Essos to Dorne. This story also takes place 1,000 years before Game of Thrones.

Within the Game of Thrones TV series and novels, two characters were named after Nymeria: Arya Stark’s direwolf and the Sand Snakes’ Nymeria Sand.

Bruno Heller, the creator of HBO’s Rome, is also working with Martin on the second spinoff, 9 Voyages. That potential show puts the spotlight on Lord Corlys Velaryon, another legendary figure who is also known as The Sea Snake, and the Lord of the Tides.

Additionally, there’s a possible show called Flea Bottom, which would take place in the slum of King’s Landing. HBO Max is also considering a Game of Thrones animated series and an adaptation of Martin’s Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas.

So far, the only Game of Thrones spinoff definitely going forward is House of the Dragon, which is filming now. It will premiere in 2022.
