Amanda Tapping Talks About the Potential Stargate Revival

Aside from the Stargate: Origins web series, the Stargate franchise has largely been dormant for a decade. Regardless, Stargate SG-1 producer Brad Wright has been trying to get a revival series off the ground. Last year, Wright indicated that the pandemic had caused the proposed revival to stall at MGM. However, former Stargate SG-1 star Amanda Tapping has revealed that the project was far enough along at one point that she was approached to return.

Via SYFY Wire, Tapping spoke to The Companion and reiterated her interest in reprising her role as Samantha Carter. But she is also very interested in a role behind-the-camera as well.

“I talked to Brad Wright about it and certainly MGM at one point were very interested,” related Tapping. “I said to Brad ‘What do you want me to do on the show?’ And he said, ‘Well, I want you to be in it and I want you to direct it.’ Perfect, thank you!”

Tapping last appeared as Carter in two episodes of Stargate Universe. But her character was promoted to colonel for her stint on Stargate Atlantis. If Tapping gets to return, she also wants to see Carter get another promotion.

“I think it’s time for a new generation but I’d love to have a part in it, for sure,” said Tapping. “I’d love to see what Carter’s up to now… General Carter. I remember when I became ‘full bird’ colonel, I was like ‘Oh man, this is great.’ But now I want to be brigadier general.”

For now, there’s no word on when or if the Stargate revival will go forward. But given Hollywood’s love of franchises, it’s bound to happen at some point.
