The CW Reveals the First Look at Azie Tesfai as Supergirl’s New Guardian

After six seasons on the air, Supergirl plans on going out with a bang by adding some new heroes into the mix. Later this year, Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) will become National City’s new Guardian, and The CW (via The Wrap) has just premiered the first look at her costume. You can check out the full photo below.

Needless to say, Kelly has some big shoes to fill. The last hero to adopt the Guardian mantle was her older brother, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks, who left the show in season 5). But while James’ costume incorporated the color silver, his sister’s getup adheres more closely to the Guardian’s look in the comics, complete with a blue jumpsuit and a golden helmet and shield. Technically, this won’t be the first time viewers will see Kelly wield the hero’s iconic weapon. She previously used it to protect civilians from falling debris during an episode of The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths event.

Supergirl’s producers began teasing Kelly’s new role as Guardian back in March. Regardless, fans will have to wait a few months before they see her suit up alongside Kara Danvers and her allies. Kelly won’t officially make her heroic debut until the current season’s 12th episode, “Blind Spots,” which Tesfai actually co-wrote with J. Holtham. The episode will air on September 21.

In the meantime, the next episode of Supergirl, “Fear Knot,” airs on Tuesday, May 11 on The CW.
