Ali Wong Joins the Cast of Amazon’s Paper Girls Series

A rising star in the comedy world has booked a lead role on Amazon’s adaptation of Paper Girls. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Ali Wong will appear on the upcoming TV show based on Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang’s acclaimed comic book series.

Last month, the series’ producers cast four young actresses to play the show’s teenage characters. The series is set in the ’80s and follows a group of newspaper delivery girls whose boring suburban lives are plunged into chaos when they stumble upon a time machine and get caught up in an ongoing war between rival time traveling factions. The series’ use of time travel also allows the girls to meet future versions of themselves, which is where Wong comes into play. According to THR’s report, Wong will star as the adult version of Erin (Riley Lai Nelet).

Wong scored a big hit in 2019 with Always Be My Maybe (which she co-wrote and starred in), and also had a small part in last year’s Birds of Prey. She previously earned rave reviews for her Netflix comedy specials Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife. Wong has also had voice roles in Big Mouth, Onward, and Tuca & Bertie.

Sofia Rosinsky, Camryn Jones, Fina Strazza are also starring in Paper Girls as Mac, Tiffany, and KJ, respectively. Vaughan and Chiang are executive producing the series alongside writers and co-showrunners Stephany Folsom and Christopher C. Rogers. Filming will begin in Chicago later this year.

Amazon hasn’t set a premiere date for Paper Girls yet.
