Marvel Studios’ Ironheart series has taken a major step forward. Variety is reporting that Chinaka Hodge has signed on to be the showrunner and head writer of Ironheart.
The Disney+ original series will introduce Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams. As envisioned by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, Riri was a 15-year old student at MIT and a technical genius. Additionally, Riri reverse engineered Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor and created her own armor based on his design. Riri also went on to become a heroine called Ironheart, and a member of the teen hero team, the Champions.

Hodge’s previous credits include TNT’s Snowpiercer series and Apple TV’s Amazing Stories reboot. She has also written the stage plays Chasing Mehserle and Mirrors in Every Corner. Additionally, Hodge is a published poet with two collections of her poetry currently in print.
Disney+ also has another Iron Man adjacent series in the pipeline. Don Cheadle will reprise his role as James Rhodes/War Machine in Armor Wars, a story about Tony Stark’s technology falling into the wrong hands. It seems likely that War Machine and Ironheart will cross paths in one or both of those series. However, Armor Wars is currently without a head writer.
