Back in the ’60s, Captain Christopher Pike never got to headline his own Star Trek series after he was featured in the original pilot episode. However, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will finally give Pike and his team their due. The new series will feature Anson Mount as Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One. All three of the primary actors originated their roles in Star Trek: Discovery season 2. But there’s also a whole new crew on the way.
Paramount+ has announced that the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is now filming in Toronto. Additionally, the announcement video revealed five new cast members: Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush, and Melissa Navia.

Details about the new characters are currently under wraps. Regardless, all five of the latest cast additions are series regulars.
Unlike Discovery, Strange New Worlds will embrace the single episode stories of the original Star Trek shows. It takes place years before Kirk took command of the Enterprise, as Spock eventually rose through the ranks under Pike. And as the title implies, the Enterprise crew will be doing a lot of exploring in this series.
Akiva Goldsman, Jenny Lumet, and Alex Kurtzman came up with the story for Strange New Worlds‘ first episode, while Goldsman directed the pilot and wrote the script. Goldsman is also the co-showrunner of the series alongside Henry Alonso Myers.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds doesn’t have a premiere date yet. But a late 2021 or an early 2022 debut seems likely.
