Although the next TV season is several months away, The CW’s future is beginning to take shape. Via Deadline, The CW has ordered pilot episodes for DC’s Naomi series, a live-action incarnation of The Powerpuff Girls, and a reboot series for The 4400.
Naomi is one of DC’s more recent heroines, as created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell. The series follows a teenage girl from the midwest who discovers a stunning secret about superheroes and herself. However, Naomi’s greatest powers lie within. Ava DuVernay and former Arrow co-executive producer Jill Blankenship are teaming up for the series. Both DuVernay and Blankenship will also co-write the pilot episode.
The Powerpuff Girls series catches up with the trio of superpowered sisters as “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crimefighting.” Regardless of their feelings, the Powerpuff Girls will reunite to once again save the day. Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier are co-writing and executive producing the show.

Finally, The 4400 is a remake of the USA network sci-fi series. That show explored a world where 4400 people were abducted from various points in time. When the 4400 are returned to the present, many of them develop superhuman abilities. Riverdale co-executive producer Ariana Jackson and Anna Fricke will be the showrunners. Unlike Powerpuff Girls and Naomi, The 4400 is going straight-to-series.
Deadline also notes that DC’s potential Wonder Girl and Painkiller series are still in the mix. Neither show has a pilot episode order, but Painkiller will get a backdoor pilot in Black Lightning season 4.
The CW will announce its fall 2021 lineup in May.
