George Clooney Will Produce Buck Rogers TV Series, May Star in the Show

Last October, Legendary Entertainment revealed plans to revive the pulp sci-fi hero, Buck Rogers, in a new TV series. Now, the upcoming show has just landed a big addition.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, George Clooney has joined the Buck Rogers reboot series as an executive producer. Clooney’s production partner, Grant Heslov, is also producing the series. Additionally, THR notes that “the project is being developed as a potential starring vehicle” for Clooney. Potentially, that means Clooney could portray Buck Rogers himself. However, the report states that no acting deal is in place for Clooney.

Y: The Last Man co-creator and former Lost writer, Brian. K. Vaughan, is the showrunner for the series.

When he debuted in 1928, Buck Rogers changed the science fiction landscape. Shortly after Phillip Francis Nowlan introduced Buck in an issue of Amazing Stories, the character went on to headline his own comic strips and film serials. In the decades that followed, Buck continued to appear in several other films and TV projects, including a 1979 TV series starring Gil Gerard. Nowlan’s creation also inspired several “copycat” heroes in the early 20th century, most notably Flash Gordon.

Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing the new Buck Rogers series through their Angry Films banner. Nowlan’s grandson, Flint Dille, is also producing.
