The CW Passes on Green Arrow and the Canaries Spinoff

Last year, Arrow concluded its eight season run on The CW. But before the series finale, the penultimate episode sent viewers back to the year 2040, where Oliver Queen’s daughter, Mia, became the new Emerald Archer. The episode was intended as a backdoor pilot for a spinoff series headlined by Mia and two of her father’s allies. Unfortunately, Arrowverse fans won’t be returning to the Star City of the future anytime soon. Variety is reporting that The CW isn’t moving forward with Green Arrow and the Canaries. Variety doesn’t give a reason for the network’s decision. But it’s been several months since there were any updates about the show.

Green Arrow and the Canaries would have featured Katherine McNamera reprising her role as Mia Queen. The series was also supposed to star Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, who would return as Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake, respectively. Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama wrote the original backdoor pilot episode for the series.

Despite this latest development, The CW still has plenty of new Arrowverse content. In a little over a week, Batwoman season 2 will arrive with Javicia Leslie stepping into the role originally played by Ruby Rose. The next new series, Superman & Lois,  premieres on February 23. Additionally, it was recently announced that The CW is currently developing new shows headlined by Naomi and Wonder Girl.
