Hailee Steinfeld Talks ‘Badass’ Kate Bishop in Marvel’s Hawkeye

The upcoming Hawkeye series already has a few days of filming in the can after kicking off in early December. While the series will explore the titular character’s time as Ronin, it will also officially introduce Kate Bishop’s character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story will follow her path to take over the mantle of Hawkeye, as Clint Barton will likely leave the scene sooner or later. And it will be up to actress Hailee Steinfeld to portray the young superheroine on the screen. While talking recently to ET, Steinfeld confessed that she’s more than excited to deal with such a ‘badass’ character.

“As I’m in the process of developing her, I’m working with some incredible filmmakers that are helping me bring her to life,” she said. “I can’t wait for people just to see how we are interpreting this character through the comics. In her own sort of ways, she’s such a badass. There’s no denying that. She’s so smart and witty and quick, and her physical ability to do so many things is through the roof. It’s really tested me, and it’s kept me going through quarantine, I will say, it’s given me a reason to stay with it.”

Her upcoming role in the MCU will hardly be Steinfeld’s first foray into the comic-book movie universe. She recently lent her voice to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as Gwen Stacy, and she will likely reprise her role in the film’s upcoming sequel. Disney+ has yet to announce an official release date for Hawkeye. However, the series is likely to premiere in late 2021.
