Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special & I Am Groot Are Heading To Disney+
In the absence of Comic-Con and D23, today’s major Marvel announcements came during Disney’s Investment Day presentation. There are ten new Marvel shows on the way to Disney+ in the next few years. And while the Guardians of the Galaxy aren’t getting a series of their own, they won’t be left out of the fun.
The entire cast will be back for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in 2022. Although James Gunn is current wrapped up in Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Pictures, he will also be back for the special. Gunn will write and direct the holiday special during the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. That sequel will now arrive in 2023, six years after the last film.

Additionally, Baby Groot will headline his own series of shorts on Disney+. The aptly titled I Am Groot will follow the young tree-like being as he encounters “several new and unusual characters.” Presumably it takes place before or shortly after the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Disney didn’t release any additional details for those shorts.
