Lucasfilm has dropped even more bombshells regarding the future of the Star Wars universe during Disney’s Investor Day livestream. The studio has just announced that a spinoff series focusing on Lando Calrissian is in development at Disney+. Studio president Kathleen Kennedy also revealed new details about another project for the streaming service, Star Wars: The Acolyte.
Star Wars: Lando comes from showrunner Justin Simien, who’s comedy-horror film Bad Hair premiered on Hulu in October. Simien also wrote and directed Dear White People in 2014 and later adapted this film into a series for Netflix. Currently, it’s not clear if Simien’s Lando series will have Billy Dee Williams reprise his iconic role from the original trilogy and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker or if Donald Glover will return to play a younger version of the character as he did in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Meanwhile, it turns out that The Acolyte is the mystery Star Wars project that Leslye Headland has been working on since her involvement with the franchise was announced earlier this year. Headland, who co-created Netflix’s Russian Doll, previously teased that her series takes place “in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don’t know much about.” Now, it’s been confirmed that The Acolyte is set during the time of The High Republic. According to a tweet from the official Star Wars Twitter account, Headland is developing the series as a mystery-thriller. The show will also “take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
Disney+ has yet to set release dates for either of these new Star Wars series.
