The Expanse Will Get a Sixth and Final Season on Amazon Prime

Two years ago, SYFY cancelled The Expanse after three seasons. However, the adaptation of James S.A. Corey’s novels received a second life on Amazon Prime. Now, a few weeks ahead of the fifth season premiere, Amazon has renewed The Expanse for a sixth and final season. Additionally, the series’ official Twitter account celebrated the news with the following post.

According to Deadline, most of the cast will return for the final season except Cas Anvar. Over the summer, Anvar was accused of sexual misconduct from multiple women, which seems to have resulted in his exit from the show.

The Expanse executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson also shared a statement about the end of the series.

“From the moment we committed to bringing this show to life up until this final season, we have worked tirelessly to honor the vision of the writers. We have prided ourselves on having one of the most diverse casts on television and giving a platform to stories that matter. A special thanks to Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the writers of both the books and series, and to Naren Shankar, the series showrunner and Executive Producer. It continues to be an honor and privilege to work with this team. We also would like to thank Amazon for their continuing support to help us tell this story in its fullest and to bring The Expanse to a global audience.”

“The dedication and artistry of everyone who helps bring The Expanse to the screen is incredible,” added showrunner Naren Shankar. “Our fans are awesome, and we cannot wait to get rolling on Season Six!”

The first three episodes of The Expanse season 6 will hit Amazon Prime on December 16. The remaining episodes will be released weekly through February 3, 2021.
