HBO Max’s Peacemaker Series Adds Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, and More

The cast of James Gunn’s Peacemaker series on HBO Max just got a lot bigger. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new show has added a handful of new cast members, including former Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks. She’ll also be joined by Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, and Chris Conrad.

Brooks is most widely recognized for her breakthrough role as Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on OITNB, which concluded its seven-year run on Netflix last year. She has also made a name for herself on the Broadway circuit. In 2016, she landed a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the previous year’s production of The Color Purple. Brooks will play a character named Leota Adebayo on Peacemaker. Meanwhile, Patrick, still best known for bringing the T-1000 to life in T2, is playing Auggie Smith.

Gunn’s girlfriend Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt in The Suicide Squad, will also reprise this role on the series. Finally, Conrad, known for his roles on Epix’s Perpetual Grace, LTD and Amazon Prime’s Patriot, is starring as the anti-hero Adrian Chase/Vigilante.

Peacemaker will fill in the backstory for John Cena’s title character, who will debut in The Suicide Squad next year. Apart from Cena, the show will also feature Steve Agee as John Economos. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the series and will direct a few episodes as well. Production is set to begin in early 2021.

HBO Max has not yet set a premiere date for Peacemaker.
