Green Lantern fans will have to be patient for a while before seeing the brand live-action TV series hitting the HBO Max streaming service. The show is currently written by Marc Guggenheim, and it will feature multiple human Green Lanterns. While talking during a Storytelling Across Media @Home panel put on by Comic-Con International, Guggenheim explained the production ambitions for his upcoming project.
“You can’t do a ten-hour show or an eight-episode show like an eight-hour movie,” he said. “I don’t think that works. When I see it done, there’s always some flabby episodes in the middle. I do think you have to approach it like a TV series and each episode like its own entity, even though it’s streaming, even though hopefully people will binge it. You’ve got to make each episode a satisfying meal. You’ve got to look at it with a different kind of tempo than you would have in a two-hour movie. Certainly, the show for HBO Max that we’re all working on, we are approaching it with the production ambitions of a movie. So, we’re writing it like a TV show, but we’re hoping to produce it like a film.”
HBO Max has yet to announce the official debut date for the Green Lantern series. You can watch the full panel in the player below.

In the same interview, Guggenheim also revealed that he said goodbye to The CW’s Arrowverse, where he worked on shows like Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow besides being involved in the annual DC superhero crossover event. Guggenheim’s journey in the Arrowverse started back in 2012 with The CW’s flagship show, Arrow.
Guggenheim also said that he is currently working on the second draft of his adaptation of Rob Liefeld’s Prophet. Fans might have to wait a while for this project to hit the big screen.
