Patton Oswalt Shares the Release Window For Hulu’s M.O.D.O.K.

Currently, M.O.D.O.K. can be seen menacing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Marvel’s Avengers. But it won’t be long before Patton Oswalt puts his own stamp on the character with a new animated series coming to Hulu. Oswalt has been developing this show for over a year now, and in a recent interview with Collider, he gave fans an idea as to when it will finally premiere.

“The episodes have been written,” Oswalt said. “They’ve been recorded [and] now they’re being animated. And because we committed very hard to the stop-motion aspect to it and we’re really packing every frame with crazy detail. It’s looking like it’ll be early next year, but I don’t know the exact date yet.”

Aside from voicing the titular supervillain, Oswalt is writing and executive producing M.O.D.O.K., which will air in stop-motion animation courtesy of Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the same team behind Robot Chicken. The supporting voice cast also includes Aimee Garcia, Melissa Fumero, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ben Schwartz, Beck Bennett, Jon Daly, and Sam Richardson. Additionally, Oswalt confirmed that composer Daniel Rojas is handling the show’s music, and he offered an update on how his score is coming along.

“It’s really, really cool stuff,” Oswalt continued. “So trust me, it is proceeding apace.”

Hulu announced plans for its own animated Marvel universe early last year when it ordered four new series: M.O.D.O.K., Tigra & Dazzler, Howard the Duck, and Hit-Monkey. The characters from these shows were supposed to eventually come together for an Offenders special. Unfortunately, those plans ground to a halt earlier this year when Hulu killed its Tigra & Dazzler and Howard the Duck series. Hit-Monkey is reportedly still alive and kicking. Regardless, there’s been no word from the streaming service on the status of that project in months.

In the meantime, M.O.D.O.K. will have a presence at this month’s virtual New York Comic Con event. There, fans can expect the cast and creators to debut an early look at the series.
