Swiss Actor Basil Eidenbenz Will Play Eskel in The Witcher Season 2

Well, it seems that The Witcher has found someone else to play Eskel, finally. Deadline brings word that Swiss actor Basil Eidenbenz will portray Geralt’s long-time friend. The need to find someone else arose after actor Thue Rasmussen announced that he wouldn’t be portraying the character in the sophomore season due to scheduling conflicts.

Eidenbenz’s credits include working on Victoria, a series focused on the early life of Queen Victoria, and portraying Lenny Brandt on The Athena, a teen series about a fashion school,  among others.

Filming for the sophomore season of The Witcher started in London in early 2020 but became problematic soon after. A couple of weeks after the beginning, production had to stop after actor Kristofer Hivju tested positive for COVID-19. The streaming service announced that production would resume in August.

In the second season, fans will discover more details about the guild of the monster hunters. Eskel won’t be the only important character within Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels to debut in the new season, nor the only new Witcher. Earlier this year, Kim Bodnia joined the series as Vesemir, a mentor and father figure both to Geralt and Eskel. Recently, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teased that the new characters will also shed new light on Geralt’s backstory.

Netflix will release The Witcher Season 2 somewhere in 2021.
