Gugu Mbatha-Raw Confirms That Loki Has Resumed Production

During this year’s Super Bowl, fans got an early look at Loki when Disney+ aired a TV spot highlighting Marvel Studios’ upcoming foray into television. The show had only been filming for a few weeks, but all it took was a few seconds of Tom Hiddleston in character to get viewers excited for the God of Mischief’s return on the small screen. Unfortunately, Loki was forced to suspend production due to the coronavirus outbreak back in March. But now, the cast and crew are officially back in Atlanta to finish production on the first season.

Hiddleston’s co-star on the series, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, confirmed the news while speaking to Forbes about her new movie, Misbehaviour. She also shared how she spent the last several months while self-isolating.

“I was in the middle of filming when the pandemic happened, so I had a real break,” said Mbatha-Raw. “I’ve been painting and reading. Like so many others, I was at home for a long time. Not to make light of the suffering going on, but in some ways, it has been an opportunity for me to get a fresh perspective on things. It is downtime that perhaps I might not have had, and now I’m thankful to be back to work. It’s been a journey for everyone, but it’s all for a greater reason and the greater good.”

Mbatha-Raw couldn’t reveal much else about the series, since plot details (including her character’s identity) are still under wraps. Regardless, she promised that the shoot is proceeding with the proper safety regulations in place.

“I’m obviously sworn to secrecy about everything to do with Loki, but it feels great to be back,” added Mbatha-Raw. “Everyone is trying to do it as safely as possible under the circumstances, and it feels good. I’m excited. It’s a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to see it.”

Loki will premiere on Disney+ in 2021.
