Black Mirror Director Toby Haynes Joins Disney+’s Cassian Andor Star Wars Series

Director Toby Haynes Joins Disney+’s Cassian Andor Star Wars Series

After COVID-19-related delays, Disney+’s Cassian Andor series is edging closer to production. However, there will be a new director at the helm when shooting begins. According to Deadline, Tony Gilroy, the co-writer of Rogue One and the director of the film’s reshoots, has decided not to travel to the United Kingdom to helm the first three episodes. In his place, Lucasfilm has hired Black Mirror director Toby Haynes to make his Star Wars debut.

Deadline also notes that Gilroy is not leaving the series, and will remain the showrunner and an executive producer. Haynes was already under consideration to direct episodes of the series before the switch. He has previously directed the Star Trek-inspired episode of Black Mirror called “U.S.S. Callister.” Haynes also directed Amazon’s Utopia series, and HBO’s Brexit movie.

Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk will reprise their roles as Cassian Andor and K-2SO for the series. However, it will be a prequel to Rogue One and take place a few years before the movie. Genevieve O’Reilly will also return for her role as Mon Mothma. Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller have also been cast in the series.

The Cassian Andor series is still without an official title or a release date.
