HBO Max’s Gotham PD Spinoff Will Take Place Before The Batman

Last month, HBO Max revealed plans to create a TV series spinoff to director Matt Reeves’ The Batman. At the time, all that was known is that Reeves will team up with producer Dylan Clark, and Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter to create  “an original DC drama set in the Gotham City police department.” Coming out of DC FanDome, more information has been revealed.

Via Deadline, Reeves indicated that The Batman will take place during Bruce Wayne’s second year as Batman. However, the HBO Max series will take place during Batman’s first year as a “masked vigilante…starts to unsettle the city.” Reeves also noted that the show will take place from the perspective of a crooked cop in the Gotham City Police Department.

“The story is actually a battle for his soul,” added Reeves.

There do seem to be some similarities to the Fox series, Gotham. However, there’s a greater chance of more frequent Batman sightings in this show. Potentially, other actors from The Batman could show up. Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon seems like a strong possibility. But at this point, no performers have been confirmed for the show. In fact, the series still doesn’t have an official title.
