Amazon Releases Official Trailer for Conspiracy Thriller Utopia Series

Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for the upcoming Utopia series. The eight-episode show by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) is an adaptation of the 2013-14 eponymous British series and had a long-gestated production since Flynn started working on this project back in 2014 together with Gone Girl director David Fincher. The show should have aired on HBO, but the television network and Fincher never reached a deal on the project’s budget. Amazon picked up the series after HBO backed down.

The official synopsis of Utopia reads:

Utopia centers on a group of comic fans who meet online and bond over their obsession of a seemingly fictional comic called ‘Utopia.’ Together, Ian (Dan Byrd), Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges), and Grant (Javon “Wanna” Walton) unearth hidden meanings cloaked within the pages of ‘Utopia,’ predicting threats to humanity. They realize these are not just the makings of a conspiracy; they are very real dangers coming alive right now in their world.”

The cast also features John Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie, Rainn Wilson as Dr. Michael Stearns, Farrah Mackenzie as Alice, as well as Christopher Denham as Arby, and Cory Michael Smith as Thomas Christie.

Amazon has yet to announce an official debut date for Utopia, but the series will premiere in fall.
