As confirmed earlier today, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier won’t be premiering next month as planned. But even though Marvel fans will have to wait a bit longer for new MCU adventures to hit Disney+, the studio is making headway on other shows still in pre-production. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Marvel has enlisted a trio of directors to helm episodes of its highly anticipated Hawkeye series.
According to the report, Amber Finlayson and Katie Ellwood will co-direct one block of episodes for the upcoming show. Finlayson and Ellwood usually collaborate under the pseudonym Bert and Bertie. The biggest credit to their name is Troop Zero, a dramedy that premiered on Amazon Prime earlier this year. They have also directed episodes of Showtime’s Kidding and Hulu’s The Great.

Marvel also drafted Rhys Thomas to helm another block of episodes. Like Bert and Bertie, Thomas is primarily known for his work in comedy. He’s directed episodes of Saturday Night Live and Documentary Now!, both of which have netted him a few Emmy nominations. More recently, Thomas directed John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch, which arrived on Netflix last December.
Although Marvel is making progress on Hawkeye behind the scenes, the casting has moved slowly. It’s been almost a year since Hailee Steinfeld was reportedly in talks to play Clint Barton’s protege, Kate Bishop. However, the studio has yet to make her involvement official.
Hawkeye is still targeting a 2021 release date on Disney+.
