Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Flash season 6 was cut short by three episodes. But while the cast and crew were forced to make adjustments, showrunner Eric Wallace is looking on the bright side. While speaking with TVLine, Wallace teased The Flash’s upcoming seventh season. He also explained how he views the shutdown as “a blessing in disguise.”
When Wallace took over The Flash at the beginning of season 6, he introduced what he calls the “graphic novel” format. This essentially splits the season into two volumes that encompass different story arcs. Additionally, the writers are currently reworking the look and feel of the remaining episodes in the current story arc.
“Because this is The Flash, there’s a huge twist at the end of every season, and that twist is now kind of coming in the middle of the [start of the] season,” said Wallace. “And that has really affected our storytelling for all of season 7.”

Regardless, Wallace isn’t letting this slow his team down. In fact, he sounds genuinely excited by the challenge that the new season will bring.
“Amid the horror and the tragedy of what’s happening with this pandemic, if we can find some kind of lemonade in the lemon, it’s us having to rethink a few things about how a Flash season looks, given this ‘narrative unpredictability’ to the season,” added Wallace.
“There are going to be more graphic novels next year,” continued Wallace. “But they’re not going to be broken up in the way I think folks expect.”
The Flash season 7 will premiere on The CW in January 2021.
