Anthony Mackie Compares The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to a Movie

It may take longer than expected to see The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, but it should be worth the wait. At least, that’s what Anthony Mackie’s recent chat to Variety seems to suggest. While talking about the upcoming series, the actor teased that it won’t feel like any kind of step down to the small screen.

“We’re shooting it exactly like a movie,” he revealed. “Everybody who had worked on TV before was like, ‘I’ve never worked on a TV show like this.’ The way in which we were shooting, it feels exactly like we were shooting the movie cut up into the show. So instead of a two-hour movie, a six or eight-hour movie.”

Mackie made his first appearance as Sam Wilson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier back in 2014. He will reprise his role as Falcon in the upcoming series centered on Steve Rogers’ supporting characters from the MCU films. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Rogers gave his iconic shield to his friend Sam, who will likely debut as the new Captain America.

Mackie also revealed a few details about the COVID-19 outbreak in Europe and the subsequent halt on production.

“We were in Europe, and everything got crazy in Europe first,” he said. “So they shut us down two weeks before the U.S. shutdown. It was really amazing just because I feel like we’re the first Marvel show or movie that had budget constraints. And that was always my [experience], ‘It’s Marvel, we could shoot forever.’ And they’re like, ‘Nah.’ So it was a very different experience from the rest of the movies.”

Marvel still intends to debut its first Disney+ offering in August. However, there might be some significant hindrances to overcome, like the rumored ban for US citizens to travel to the EU. The next days should clarify if the ongoing health crisis will impact the series’ release or not.
