Brent Spiner Insists That Star Trek: Picard Is His Final Performance As Data

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for the Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Finale!

The season finale of Star Trek: Picard gave Jean-Luc Picard his emotional closure with Data years after his death in Star Trek: Nemesis. In a memorable scene, Data reunited with Picard in a simulation and requested that his consciousness be allowed to expire. That allowed Data to choose the way his life ended. It also allowed Brent Spiner to have a satisfying farewell to his iconic character.

While speaking with TV Guide, Spiner indicated that he won’t be open to playing Data down the road.

“[I] wouldn’t really entertain the idea of doing it again,” said Spiner. “I just don’t think it would be realistic.”

Regardless, Spiner indicated that he was very pleased by Picard and Data’s final moments together.

“It seemed right to me to give him this more gentle sendoff,” noted Spiner. “And it seemed right to me in the context of the entire season of Picard and what Picard himself had been experiencing because of the loss of Data. I think it allows him to feel okay about it too. So it seemed like the right thing to do.”

Star Trek: Picard season 1 is currently streaming on CBS All Access.
