The Witcher Season 2 Adds Kim Bodnia as Vesemir

It looks like Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia won’t be the only Witcher showing up onscreen when Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels returns for season 2. Variety brings word that Kim Bodnia will portray a major character from the books in the next season of The Witcher. He’ll appear in all eight episodes as Vesemir, the “oldest and most experienced” Witcher in the series’ universe.

Most recently, Bodnia starred as Konstantin on BBC America’s Killing Eve. He was also a series regular in the first two seasons of The Bridge, a Scandanavian crime drama. Additionally, Bodnia achieved recognition back in the ‘90s after appearing in Danish films such as Pusher and Nightwatch.

“I am so thrilled to welcome Kim Bodnia to the cast of The Witcher,” said showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich in a statement. “I have admired his unique talents in shows like Killing Eve and The Bridge, and cannot wait for him to bring strength, tenacity, and warmth to the character of Vesemir, who is such an integral part of our upcoming season.”

In Sapkowski’s novels, Vesemir served as a father figure to Geralt and others of his kind. He also survived the fabled Massacre at Kaer Morhen; which nearly erased all Witchers from existence. After that event, Vesemir has also dedicated himself to ensuring the survival of the remaining Witchers.

The Witcher’s second season recently began production in the UK. The new cast members include Kristofer Hivju, Paul Bullion, Yasen Atour, Agnes Bjorn, Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Aisha Fabienne Ross, Mecia Simson, and Carmel Laniado. The series will return to Netflix in 2021.
