Pennyworth Adds Three New Cast Members for Season 2

Although DC fans were initially skeptical of Epix’s Pennyworth, the show did well enough to warrant a follow-up season. Now, we have a better idea of what the cast will look like when the new episodes eventually debut. Deadline is reporting that James Purefoy, Edward Hogg, and Jessye Romeo will play new characters in season 2.

Purefoy is perhaps most widely recognized for playing Mark Antony on HBO’s Rome from 2005 to 2017. He also starred opposite Kevin Bacon on Fox’s The Following. More recently, Purefoy has appeared on Altered Carbon and Sex Education, both of which hail from Netflix. Hogg has recurred on a number of popular British TV series, including Taboo and Harlots. On the film side, he starred in Jupiter Ascending and Anonymous.

Romeo doesn’t have a lot of screen credits to her name. However, she gained recognition for her role on the Sky One series Curfew. She also appeared in an episode of Stan Lee’s Lucky Man in 2018.

Deadline’s report indicates that Purefoy and Hogg are playing military men in Pennyworth’s next season. Purefoy is playing Captain Gulliver Troy, Alfred’s charismatic former SAS Captain with a bit of a mean streak. He’s described as a “cultured brute and a powerful man of appetites – whether that be drink, women or danger.” Hogg will portray the murderous Colonel Salt, a “would-be despot masquerading as an obedient civil servant.”

Meanwhile, Romeo will star as Katie Browning, an art student who suddenly becomes entangled in the “civil war” happening around her. All three of these actors will be part of the main cast in Pennyworth season 2. Additionally, the show has upgraded Ramon Tikaram and Harriet Slater to series regulars. Tikaram and Slater previously recurred in Pennyworth’s first season as Inspector Victor Aziz and Sandra Onslow, respectively. The new season is still without a release date.
