Last year, Netflix renewed Lucifer for a fifth and final season. However, it sounds like the streaming giant is having second thoughts about saying goodbye to Tom Ellis’ title character. According to TVLine, Netflix is in early conversations with Warner Bros. Television to prolong the cult series’ lifespan.
Although the show is only loosely based on the Vertigo Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Lucifer has developed a loyal following since it debuted in 2016. The series aired its first three seasons on Fox before that network canceled it 2018. However, thanks to the tenacity of a #SaveLucifer campaign on social media, Netflix picked up the show a month later. Netflix subsequently premiered a fourth season in 2019.

The original plan was to close out the show’s five-year run with a 16-episode final season. Ellis announced last fall that Netflix would split the season into two eight-episode chunks. TVLine notes that those episodes are currently in their “final weeks” of filming. Most recently, Dennis Haysbert joined the fifth season’s cast as the Almighty himself, God.
Lucifer season 5 is still without a premiere date.
