Genndy Tartakovsky Speaks Out About His Star Wars: Clone Wars Animated Series

Next month Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 will hit Disney+ and wrap up the series. But Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars shorts have yet to make their way to Disney+ as well. Prior to the premiere of Star Wars: The Clone Wars,  the traditionally animated Clone Wars was deemed “non-canon” by Lucasfilm. Tartakovsky recently addressed that in a new interview with Digital Spy

“It’s frustrating that they tried to erase it from being canon,” explained Tartakovsky. “At first, it was canon. And then once George [Lucas] started doing the CG version, he wanted to clean the slate. And so they de-canonised ours.”

Additionally, Tartakovsky shared a few other details about his Clone Wars.

“We developed it in two weeks, and we did it so fast with a skeleton crew,” said Tartakovsky. “For it to have as much praise as it gets, it’s really great.”

Tartakovsky also made note of the crashed Star Destroyers from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and a similar scene in his show. While Tartakovsky did note how strikingly close TFA was to his series, he said “I’ll take it” with a laugh.

“The whole Star Wars thing — I’ve moved on. I don’t lose sleep over it,” related Tartakovsky. “It’s fun to have people still love it, and for new people to still discover it.”

But he still had somber reflection looking back at it.. “I’m super-proud of it and I know it’s influenced a lot, as far as Star Wars going forward, which is great – whether people want to admit to it or not.”
