Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Gets Debut Teaser and Premiere Date

It won’t be long before Penny Dreadful spinoff finally arrives. Showtime has revealed the first trailer for its “spiritual descendant” series, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. It will hit Showtime on Sunday, April 26.

The series is  set in 1938 Los Angeles, “a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension,” according to Showtime. Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) stars as Magda, a shape-shifting demon who serves as an “agent of chaos.” Daniel Zovatto co-stars as Tiago Vega, a detective investigating Maga. Nathan Lane also stars as Lewis Michener, Vega’s partner.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

“When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Lane) become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.”

The series also stars Michael Gladis, Lorenza Izzo, Thomas Kretschmann and Adam Rodriguez. Rory Kinnear, who previously portrayed Frankenstein’s Monster in Penny Dreadful, will return in a new role, Dr. Peter Craft. However, there’s no word about whether any other actors from the previous series are returning.

John Logan, the creator of Penny Dreadful, will once again return to write and executive produce the spinoff.
