Although The Lord of the Rings TV series hasn’t even started filming yet, Amazon already wants it to continue. Deadline confirms that Amazon has ordered a second season for the show. This news comes from Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, who confirmed that the writers’ room already has preparations in place for it.
Salke noted that there will be a filming hiatus following the filming of the first two episodes. It will be about four to five months, which should give the showrunners time to plot out the second season. This could mean a shorter wait between seasons on the Prime service, per the report.

The series has made significant progress since Amazon acquired the rights back in 2017. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were brought on board as showrunners, alongside Game of Thrones writer/producer Bryan Cogman. Additionly, J.A. Bayona, who previously helmed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, came aboard to direct the first two episodes. Several key cast members have also joined the project, including Markella Kavenagh, Will Poulter and Maxim Baldry.
The series is currently in pre-production in New Zealand, where the original Lord of the Rings movies were filmed. No release dates are available yet, but we should know more in the months ahead.
