Greg Kinnear Signs On for CBS All Access’ The Stand

CBS All Access’ adaptation of The Stand continues to amass an impressive roster of talent. Just a few days after Heather Graham signed on, another A-lister has joined the project. Variety is reporting that Greg Kinnear has officially been cast in the series. He will play Glen Bateman, a widowed professor who survives the deadly virus. It isn’t long before his character becomes fascinated by Mother Abigail’s visions, resulting in some interesting circumstances.

Kinnear was first rumored for the role of Glen back in June. He joins an already star-studded cast led by James Marsden, Amber Heard, and Whoopi Goldberg. Alexander Skarsgard is also onboard as the villainous Randall Flagg.

Kinnear has been keeping quite busy as of late. He recently appeared in the final season of Netflix’s House of Cards. He also guest-starred on another CBS All Access series, The Twilight Zone; and will soon appear in the upcoming comedy series Good People with Lisa Kudrow.

Co-writers and executive producers Josh Boone and Ben Cavell have been hard at work on The Stand ever since CBS All Access ordered the series earlier this year. Boone has promised to deliver “the ultimate version” of Stephen King’s classic novel. Plus, King himself will write the final episode of the series. The producers have noted that he will provide a “new coda” that goes beyond his original book.

The Stand also stars Odessa Young, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Henry Zaga, Brad William Henke, Eion Bailey, Katherine McNamara, and Hamish Linklater. The series is currently in pre-production and doesn’t have a release date. However, it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2020.
