Brandon Routh Suits Up as Clark Kent in Crisis on Infinite Earths

Comic book adaptations are normally shrouded in secrecy. But either no one told Brandon Routh about this, or The CW is trying to drum up as much excitement as possible for Crisis on Infinite Earths. Over the last week, Routh has taken to Instagram to share new images from the set of the upcoming crossover. Most of his pictures showcased the Kingdom Come-inspired Superman costume he’ll be sporting. Now, we know he’ll be suiting up as the Man of Steel’s alter-ego as well.

Routh’s latest offering confirms that he will once again don a suit and glasses to play Clark Kent. More notably, it reveals that Routh’s character has been promoted since audiences last saw him in Superman Returns. As his office door indicates, this version of Clark has replaced Perry White as editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet. You can check out the photo below.

The image also suggests that this incarnation of Superman isn’t a direct adaptation of Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come story. In that miniseries, the Joker murdered the staff of Metropolis’ favorite newspaper, including Lois Lane. This, along with the city’s support for the murderous antihero, Magog, prompted Clark to leave his old life behind. Of course, it’s also worth noting that it’s difficult to tell if Routh’s Clark has gray temples in this picture. The scene in question might be a flashback.

Supergirl will kick off Crisis on Infinite Earths on Sunday, December 8. The second part will unfold in Batwoman on Monday, December 9. Meanwhile, The Flash will feature the third part on Tuesday, December 10. Then on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will wrap up the crossover.
