Will Poulter Will Star In Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings Series

Nearly a decade ago, Will Poulter joined the Narnia franchise in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. If the films had continued, he would have been the lead character. But now, Poulter is getting a second chance in the fantasy realm courtesy of Amazon.

Via Variety, Poulter has landed a leading role in The Lord of the Rings series on Amazon. However, there are currently no details available about which role Poulter will play. Earlier this summer, Poulter starred in the horror film, Midsommar (pictured above). He also starred in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch interactive movie, in addition to his roles in We’re the Millers, The Maze Runner, The Revenant, and Detroit.

Earlier this summer, Markella Kavenagh was also cast in LOTR in an undisclosed role.

Unlike Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings trilogies, Amazon’s LOTR series will take place in the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy epic. It’s largely unexplored territory that includes the rise of Sauron and the creation of the One Ring. The opening sequence of Jackson’s Fellowship of the Ring depicted the end of the Second Age, as an alliance of men and elves confronted Sauron in battle.

A start date for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings has not been announced, but it’s likely to begin filming next year.
