Russo Bros. Say Magic: The Gathering May Get Live-Action Spinoff

Last month, Netflix revealed that Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo are adapting Magic: The Gathering as an animated series. However, at the Russo brothers’ Comic-Con panel, the duo hinted that their plans for Magic may expand even further.

Via Deadline, Joe Russo said “It’s an animated project with the potential to spin it off into live-action. It’s a game we love — we’re geeks and love Magic: The Gathering and we’re excited to tell stories with it.”

Magic debuted as a card game in 1993, and it’s popularity has endured for over 25 years. They mythology has been greatly expanded over the years. There have also been novels and comics set within the Magic universe. But the animated series will be the most ambitious adaptation of the game to date.

Anthony and Joe Russo are executive producing the animated series, while Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina will be the showrunners and lead writers. The animation will be provided by Octopie Network and Bardel Studio. However, Netflix has yet to announce a start date or a release date.
