HBO’s epic drama Game of Thrones wrapped up over a month ago, and now fans of George R.R. Martin’s epic are waiting for the Game of Thrones prequel which is already filming.
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, actress Naomi Watts has revealed she felt “intimidated” to join the prequel cast but that it won’t disappoint.
“It makes me very excited, yeah, goosebumps all over. It is intimidating. It’s very exciting. And yes, having just come off the last series, where the world was blowing up over it. Everything was Game of Thrones related. All the advertising on TV, every article — everyone’s jumping on that bandwagon. So, it is scary. But hopefully those fans come along and get to find something new and interesting in this world as well. I think they won’t be let down. It’s a great team of people they’ve put together.”

S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders, Jessica Jones, Untitled Star Trek Sequel) will direct the pilot of the Game of Thrones prequel. Joining Watts in the series will be Josh Whitehouse and Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: Episode IX), Tony nominee Denise Gough (Angels in America, Guerrilla), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd, Mortal Instruments), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Black Mirror, Humans), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Alex Sharp (To the Bone), and Toby Regbo (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
The big-budgeted spinoff is created by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman) and GOT author George R.R. Martin, written by Goldman based on a story by her and Martin. The untitled pilot takes the prequel concept to a new level as it will tell a story happened thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.
Goldman is serving as showrunner and will executive produce alongside Martin as well as fellow Game of Thrones executive producer Vince Gerardis and co-creator/executive producer Daniel Zelman (Damages, Bloodline).
Martin confirmed that none of the characters or actors from Game of Thrones will be appearing in the prequel since it is set ten thousand years before the events of Game of Thrones. He also noted that “three more Game of Thrones prequels, set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, remain in active development.”
