The First Star Trek: Picard Teaser Is Here!

It’s been 17 years since Jean-Luc Picard last appeared onscreen in Star Trek: Nemesis. But Patrick Stewart’s iconic character will return later this year in Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access. The first teaser trailer for the series has arrived, and it offers a glimpse of Picard’s post-Starfleet life. While Picard appears to have retired to his family’s vineyard, even Starfleet doesn’t seem to understand what drove him away.

An unseen female narrator mentions that Picard “led us out of the darkness” 15 years ago. She also said that he “created the greatest rescue armada in history.” That likely refers to the ships sent to save the Romulans after the destruction of their homeworld in the 2009 Star Trek reboot. That was the point where old Spock was sent to the newly created Kelvin Timeline. However, the original Star Trek timeline continued beyond that point.

Another important detail in this teaser is the confirmation that Picard finally accepted a promotion to admiral. However, it also hints at a dark event that shattered Picard’s faith in himself and Starfleet. What could have caused Picard to change so drastically? We’ll have ten episodes to find out in the first season.

Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Alison Pill, and Harry Treadaway are joining Stewart on the series. Former Star Trek: The Next Generation co-star Jonathan Frakes is directing two episodes of Picard. But there’s currently no indication that Frakes will reprise his role as Will Riker.

Star Trek: Picard will debut later this year on CBS All Access. You can watch the teaser below.
