Disney CEO Teases a Third Live-Action Star Wars Series

Even though we won’t see Star Wars on the big-screen for a few years after The Rise of Skywalker, Disney has big plans on another front. Two live-action TV series based on the franchise will debut on Disney+ over the next few years. Now, based on comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger, a third series will follow as well.

“We are producing two Star Wars live-action series for Disney+. One of them is called The Mandalorian, which is being supervised by Jon Favreau. And the other one is a bit of a prequel to Rogue One. And my guess is there will probably be at least one more [Star Wars] live-action series that we produce for Disney+ before we release the next film.”

We already know that The Mandalorian is set to debut later this year. And with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor series set to begin filming, it’s probably going to debut in either 2020 or 2021. That does leave a gap for the next few years that could be filled by a third series. However,  a second season of The Mandalorian is rumored to be on the agenda.

As for what the third Star Wars series will be based on, Iger didn’t have anything else to add. But the possibilities are endless between the films, comics, novels, and video games to draw from.

We may potentially get details on the new series in the months ahead. Movie Web‘s recent report suggests Star Wars may have a huge presence at San Diego Comic-Con in July. With Disney D23 Expo happening later this summer, the company could have a reveal planned there as well.
