Disney+ already has big plans for Marvel Studios, including series for Loki, Vision and Scarlet Witch, as well as Falcon and Winter Soldier. But according to a new report, Disney+ is also developing an animated What If? anthology series.
Via Slash Film, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige will directly oversee the new series, which is inspired by Marvel’s alternate universe title that debuted in 1977. The premise of What If? allowed writers and artists to explore different takes on the heroes. For example, the first issue featured a story where Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four. Slash Film notes that at least one classic story, What if Loki had found the hammer of Thor?, is being adapted.

The report also suggests that actors and actresses from the Marvel Cinematic Universe could reprise their roles for the series. It also notes that each episode will tackle a different story or premise, like the comic that inspired it. Additionally, the series may be based on scenarios inspired by the MCU movies, rather than the comics.
Marvel recently made a very big animated commitment to Hulu, including Howard the Duck and three other series. If What If? goes forward, it will be the first Marvel animated series on Disney+.
