Aldous Huxley’s magnum opus is getting new life on TV. According to Variety, legendary comic book writer Grant Morrison has been enlisted to pen a new adaptation of Brave New World. The USA network has given the project a straight-to-series order.
Following its release in 1932, Brave New World became an iconic novel in the realm of dystopian fiction. Set in the year AF (After Ford) 632, the novel imagines a future London society that adheres to a strict social hierarchy. When two of the city’s inhabitants, Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne, explore the world beyond their familiar surroundings, a mysterious stranger awakens them to an entirely different perspective. With this, the two begin to question the status quo of their conditioned lives.

Morrison will write the new Brave New World series with David Wiener and Brian Taylor. Wiener will also serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Morrison and Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Additionally, Black Mirror alum Owen Harris is directing the series’ pilot episode. Previously, TV adaptations of Brave New World were released in 1980 and 1998. Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio attempted to make a theatrical version as early as 2009. However, Scott and DiCaprio ultimately abandoned it in favor of of other projects.
Morrison recently relaunched The Green Lantern for DC Comics with artist Liam Sharp. Morrison also continues to write for the Syfy series Happy!, which is based on the comic book series he co-created with artist Darick Robertson. Happy! season 2 will premiere on March 27.
